The first step to creating a better and more sustainable product is to acquire knowledge. Through a partnership with an industry-leading lifecycle assessment company, the current product is evaluated and custom software is developed to help guide designs. This software helps identify where to make the biggest difference and reduce the overall impact. This life cycle assessment tool calculates all the materials and energy used to create, sew and ship the finished product. The design of this model was driven by this tool, resulting in lower impact material choices and more refined construction techniques. The result is a functional and aerodynamic backpack with a 59% reduction in carbon footprint.
