The Tatonka Cima Di Basso 40L backpack is a lightweight climbing backpack with 40 litres of volume and a RECCO reflector. The large single-compartment features smart equipment, which has been selected so that the backpack weighs only 1400 grams, despite its volume. The lightweight, thermoformed back of the backpack combines with the padded waist belt, adjustable chest strap and load control straps to provide a firm, snug fit. The belt can be removed and connected to a climbing harness. A waterproof zip runs lengthwise, allowing direct access to the equipment, which is stored in the main compartment. The large front pocket, with an elastic insert, can be used to hold a helmet and as a holder for a rope, ice axe or hiking pole, and the various loops allow other equipment to be reliably attached. The RECCO reflector on the flap is an extremely practical safety feature. The helicopter detectors developed by RECCO enable professional rescue forces to locate missing persons in the mountains quickly and all year round.

Technology developed in the late 1970s and improved over the years. It is an avalanche rescue system that allows victims to be located through a radar. It consists of two parts: the radar detectors that rescue teams carry and the passive reflectors that don’t send out signals and which are incorporated in some jackets, trousers, helmets and even boots. The reflector consists of a small electronic piece that weighs less than four grams with a thin copper antenna and a diode that echoes the signals sent out by detectors. It is covered by a protective rubber outer coating which gives it its well-known long capsule like shape. It is virtually indestructible. The reflector does not emit a signal and therefore does not require a power source.
